Create a trade idea. Enter the competition.

As part of Real Vision’s 10th birthday celebrations, we’re kicking off a trade ideas competition on September 6.

Plus, Pro, and RVIP members can enter one trade idea they think will deliver the highest returns by the end of October.

The details of the competition and prizes (and everything else happening for our birthday month )can be found here.

To enter the trade idea competition, you’ll need to create and publish your competition trade idea (obviously…!)

So, here’s Raoul giving a quick demonstration on exactly how to do that…

Raoul creates a new trade idea on the platform

A guide to trade ideas

Trade ideas are a really powerful tool. They allow you keep track of and test your investment ideas and frameworks, and document your learnings throughout the trade.

As your library of trade ideas grows with active and closed trades, you have a record of your trade ideas history and can see what ideas came to fruition and what ideas… maybe needed a re-think.

You can see how your investment thesis has evolved over time, and quickly refer back to why you created the trade idea in the first place, what you learned from that trade, and more.

Creating a trade idea

You can create a new trade idea from anywhere on the platform, by clicking on the icon in the bottom right, and selecting “New trade idea”.

If you’re watching a video or reading a report, you can also start a new trade idea by clicking on the “New idea” icon.

If you start a new trade idea from a video or report, you’ll see the title of your trade idea is already filled in, and the video/report is already linked to your idea.

If there’s already some ideas shared by other members for that content, you can view their shared idea(s) first, then click the “…” at the top and start your own idea.

Completing your trade idea

First, give your trade idea a Title. If the title is already filled in, you can easily edit this to something you prefer.

Next, it’s time to fill in what your trade is about.

In the Symbol fields, choose Buy if you’re long, or Sell if you’re looking to short something.

Once Buy/Sell is selected, search for your stock, commodity etc. by typing in the name (or symbol) for that trade. For example “AMZN” or “Amazon”.

Once that item appears in the list, simply click on it, and you’ll see the Entry Price value has been updated. This is the current price (in real-time) of that trade.

(Note: The number of available symbols is constantly updating with more and more options. You can expect more options in the coming days and weeks).

If you want to change the Entry Price for your trade from the current price, you can edit this field to your new entry price.

Your Position Size for this trade is an optional field. So, if you’re going to share this trade idea publicly (now or in the future) and would prefer to leave this empty, you can do so.

Next, you set your Stop Loss (for when your trade may need a re-think and you should probably get out of it) and Take Profit values. These are required fields to create your trade idea.

If your trade is to buy, your Stop Loss needs to be less than your Entry Price and your Take Profit should be higher than the Entry Price.

If your trade is to sell, then the opposite is true.

Once your Stop Loss and Take Profit values have been added, you’ll see your Potential Risk/Reward ratio for your trade.

This is a way of saying that if you risk $100 and expect to make $400, your Risk/Reward ratio will be 1:4, for example.

After that, you state your Why.

What is your hypothesis? What led you to create this trade idea?

The more detailed your research and analysis, the better — especially if you find yourself looking back on this trade idea in the future.

You can add images, and links to Real Vision content or external sources to accompany your analysis too.

The Learnings field is an extremely useful field to update while your trade is active. Here, you can document your continued research throughout the trade, such as “Quarterly earnings report on 12 Sept. lower than forecast. My long-term projection remains unchanged, and here’s why…” or “Doubling down, and here’s why…” with accompanying links and charts.

When the trade is closed (automatically by hitting the Stop Loss or Take Profit value), documenting your Learnings is a powerful process that can help you become a better and more confident investor. Your future-self will thank you for it, especially if you find this trade idea in 6 months time and want to quickly know what happened.

Once you’re happy with the details of your idea, now it’s time to save your trade idea.

When all the required fields have been updated, you’ll see the Save button, highlighted.

Check your trade idea one last time, then hit Save to store your idea in your Library.

Public and private trade ideas

By default, all new trade ideas are private, meaning you are the only person who can see details and learnings. You can create as many trade ideas as you like. All your trade ideas will be stored in your Library, and can be edited, updated, or deleted at any time.

Plus and Pro members can also share their trade ideas with other members.

By setting your trade idea to Public, you’re letting other members know the details of your trade idea, your thought process, and also giving them an opportunity to add comments to your idea.

To set your idea Public, click on the lock icon at the top of your trade idea template, and select Public.

As the number of trade ideas and comments grow, so does the community’s knowledge and learnings.

To quote Raoul, “This is where the power of the RV Network becomes exponential”.

Note: Once you set a trade idea to Public, you cannot change this back to Private. This is how we all hold ourselves accountable for what we publish.

Active, pending, and closed trade ideas

When saving a trade idea, it will be Active if the Entry Price is the same as the current price for the trade, or lower.

If the Entry Price is higher than the current market price, then your trade is marked as Pending, until your Entry Price for the trade is reached.

When a trade is active you can see the total return from when it was published (updated in real-time).

You can also see the day’s current change for that ticker symbol, as well as a brief summary by clicking on it

For example, “NVDA” has changed -4.91% today, and clicking on the symbol shows the company is Nvidia:

A trade is marked as Closed when the Stop Loss or Take Profit value has been reached.

You’ll see the Total Return +/- listed next to the trade.

Well done Oleg K…!

Viewing shared ideas from other members

You can view all the shared trade ideas from other members in the Knowledge Center on the platform, and clicking the Ideas tab, with the most recent trade ideas appearing on the home page in the Community Insights section.

You will also see your own ideas in this section (public and private), but your private trade ideas are only viewable to you, and you’ll see a “locked” icon on your private trade ideas.

Clicking on the trade idea allows you to see the details of that trade idea, as well as the ability to bookmark, like, or comment on the idea.

Plus and Pro members can view details and comment on all publicly shared trade ideas on the platform — active and closed.

Free members can view partial details on any active trade ideas, but all the details of a closed idea. (Tip: If you’re a Free member, you can bookmark an active trade idea, then return to the idea once it’s closed to view all the details).
