Say hello to Gary

The retired investment advisor
who has learnt to avoid ‘groupthink’

I’ve been watching Real Vision since the beginning, and I just renewed my subscription for a third year.

I’m a recently retired investment advisor. After 30 years in the industry, I now manage my family’s money full-time.

I get several benefits from my Real Vision subscription, but the biggest one – and the one that I can’t get anywhere else – is that watching Real Vision makes me think.

Look, I’ve spent decades helping people invest. And I can tell you the number one problem in this industry is groupthink. Everyone has biases, and people tend to talk to (or listen to) people who they agree with. I’m as guilty of this as the next guy. And it results in herd behavior that can really damage investment performance.

Watching Real Vision solves this problem for me. It helps me challenge my own biases, and to become aware of my own blind spots. That alone is worth many multiples of the subscription price.

The quality of the people on Real Vision is just excellent. I read a tremendous amount of investment research and the content Real Vision produces is some of the best in the world.

And I’m not just talking about the superstars that regularly appear on Real Vision – guys like Hugh Hendry, Jim Rogers, Jeff Gundlach.

They’re great. But I also enjoy the “unknowns” – the expert guests  who are equally successful but typically shun the spotlight. I’ll often finish an interview and think “wow, I’ve never heard of that guy, but his ideas are great.”

Come to think of it, there was one small thing I saw recently that really, really impressed me. Real Vision interviewed Australian money manager Daniel Want. The interview itself was great. But here’s the amazing part: subscribers asked several intelligent questions in the comment section, and a week or two after the interview, Daniel logged on and answered a bunch of them!

I don’t need to tell you that internet comment sections are often a toxic wasteland. But here’s this renowned expert, donating his time to answer subscriber questions. It was fantastic. I’ve never seen anything like it. And it speaks to the genuine relationships Real Vision has built with its featured experts.
