Daily Briefing ·
Featuring Haley Draznin, Ed Harrison, and Roger Hirst

Published on: September 24th, 2020 • Duration: 27 minutes

Managing editor, Ed Harrison, hosts managing editor, Roger Hirst, to break down wild market swings that have characterized the last week of price action. Roger explores key retracement levels in the IBEX and FTSE 100 as well as the recent weakness in bank stocks, using his analysis from his latest episode of "The Big Conversation." Ed then discusses the momentum shift over the past two weeks from growth to value through the lens of his interview with Ben Inker, heir apparent to Jeremy Grantham at GMO. The pair then look at the head-and-shoulders pattern in the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) and explore whether currencies could be a release valve for volatility adjustment. In the intro, Ed speaks to Real Vision reporter, Haley Draznin, about the steady rise in jobless claims released today, which signal continuing layoffs as the economy recovers slowly from the coronavirus pandemic.

Oh Patrick - we're loving Roger's bouffant here in the office. It isn't easy to get your hair to do that - it takes hard work and hours of attention.

Great DB!! ED and Roger is the best paring, two experienced thinkers discussing! Prefer the DBs to be just that, focused on what is happening now and how it fits in with the broader narrative. Practical input to our own thinking and actions. Love how diversity is getting more attention, now also including hairstyles.

Awesome interview. The banks are key; great perspective from Roger on Europe. Nationalization should be on the radar, certainly. MMT (Magic Money Tree) is taking root. BoE embracing negative rates this week. The debt jubilee may run across sov and corp space, esp. as nationalization odds increase. I was skeptical of the crypto silo, but Raoul's Michael Saylor interview changed my mind. $MSTR very much on the radar with huge squeeze potential (not due to modest short interest, but simply demand outstripping supply), esp. ahead of a proper BTC ETF. The discounted subscription for CFA Institute members was ket for the RealVision platform as meeting continuing ed metrics has been more difficult under C-19. This should be expanded to GARP (Global Association of Risk Professionals) and PRMIA if it has not been already. Keep up the great work! JCG

Great conversation. On different subject, did not know that Hair is huge on real vision TV. Give Roger a break folks, must be a combination of the weather and so many things to sort out in UK. Heard Ed laughing at the idea of so many trucks at the borders.

Good comments on gold and silver. I am surprised with all the commotion of Brexit, COVID-19 rise in UK and Europe, etc. that gold, silver, and Bitcoin have not started to move up again. The US is becoming more dysfunctional too. The sabotage of the US postal system is real. I mailed a birthday card to Switzerland and it took almost two months to arrive. This is not an isolated instance. If you get rid of the sorting machines it will disrupt the flow of mail. With all the disruptions, I am just a little surprised that safe-haven assets are not doing better. DLS

Let's address the elephant in the room. WTF is up with Roger's hair? Did he just get out of bed? I had to switch to audio, because with hair like that, even a British accent can't save you. πŸ˜‚
