Published on: November 3rd, 2015 • Duration: 34 minutes

Mark Dow, founder of Dow Global Advisors, brings a fresh perspective on emerging markets in Horizon, discussing factors behind why the "apocalyptic" EM carry trade may be overstated, debating the correlation between emerging markets growth and commodity exports, and explaining why currency valuation is not the perfect proxy for EM economy health.

Mark gets the second order logic that most tourists don't. His thinking is both elegant in its nuance as well as its articulation. Top chap and top guest.

He points out that credit boom was main driver of growth in EM, but doesn't emphasize the fact that its dollar denominated debt that has to be repaid converting weaker currency due to slower growth.

Agreed his insights R way beyond ordinary; wouldn't want to miss 'em. But 'spread' between his milieu's zeitgeist, incl their attendant policy prescripts, and 'Austrian' teachings is MOST depressing!

just a translational impact? transaction impact has just begun to be felt -- look at CAT, FAST or any industrial bellwether -- strong dollar is hollowing out the US industrial base

This is a fantastic think piece, and as often is the case on RVTV I find myself feeling truly schooled. His nuanced analysis of debt, EM and policy is very compelling.

Mark was the best RVTV speaker on the current state of the global markets. He gave insightful pragmatic insights without falling into the binary cliche"s about strong dollar or no strong dollar. Great

I have been struck by how the debate has been so binary. Austerity/reform vs spending/infrastructure. Very little talk about how important sequencing is as well as what you spend on. dow the 1st.
