Mish Schneider — Trading Market Megatrends in 2021

Live ·
Featuring Mish Schneider and Max Wiethe

Published on: January 5th, 2021 • Duration: 78 minutes

Mish Schneider, direct of trading, education, and research at marketgauge.com, joins Real Vision's Max Wiethe to dive into her market outlook for 2021 and the megatrends she sees emerging on the horizon. Providing her perspective on this year's evolving market environment, she gives an update on her economic modern family as well as where she sees Treasuries, gold, volatility, and the bond market are headed. She explains why in 2021 the decline of big tech and the rise of small cap growth stocks will continue, and she also reviews key commodities—agriculture, silver, sugar, and oil—and follows up on some of the sectors she's talked about previously on Real Vision Live.

Mish is a very talented technician but her comments on fundamentals seriously weakens her perspective. Less on the fundamentals would also allow for more actionable ideas being presented.

this is a vague comment so if you want to elucidate me on where my comments weaken the fundamentals, I am always eager to learn

      M. You obviously spend a tremendous amount of time following the technicals and have the proper tools and support to make your advice beneficial. However, proper fundamental analysis includes modeling individual stocks, forecasting earnings and having a deep understanding of the balance sheet and income statement . This goes beyond a cursory understanding of the business and industry and providing a general concept behind a particular company as filler to your technical opinion.Comments are not meant to offend but to offer the perspective of a 40 year veteran of this business. Best wishes.

"Fundamental analysis includes modeling individual stocks, forecasting earnings and having a deep understanding of the balance sheet and income statement . This goes beyond a cursory understanding of the business and industry and providing a general concept behind a particular company as filler to your technical opinion." No offense taken-and thank you for the explanation. I am a megatrend trader so my evidence is based on the sociological and psychological reasons for a trade-backed by technicals. You are absolutely correct that balance sheets, PEs, incomes etc are not my thing-nor do they help people time their way in. IN fact, those stats have hurt people. Take TESLA-fundamentalist's are still calling a top-megatrend traders are loving the gift -as we are. Best!

A good session as always, Mish. What are the pros and cons of DBA vs something like DJP or DBC?

Hi Mish, I always look forward to your interviews. I made money on corn and soyb and I recall you talking about the the emotions that at play when commodities get going. Thanks! I'm very curious about Asia. I Had FXI and EWS on my radar this past week and I went with EWS because I'm not comfortable with china headline risk right now, and I like that the Price action on EWS seems to make up its mind a little better day to day in my opinion. I'm long the May call @20. My belief is that a break in the downward trendline starting in Apr. of 2019 would allow it to reach the top of a longer term symmetrical triangle that dates back to 2008, at $26. I am curious about your opinion on EWS, and would love if you gave any comparison compare the the two set ups. I know nothing about the fundamentals of what is in EWS. I like the chart, and I'm trading the go east, dollar decline, and better Covid outcome theme. Also, are you anticipating taking profits on FXI at $52.5ish? Thanks again!

Hi David-and thank you. I like the Asia play in spite of all the bad press-I just did alot of research on the Asia megatrends and the shift from an industrial economy to a consumer based or service economy is happening fast-I would not bet against Xi. As far as EWS-23.20 is your area to clear as good resistance. FXI in better shape technically and must clear 48.00-then we will see what it has before taking some profits (been sitting long since around 44)-Best to you

Damn, a day late on $DDD...but nonetheless...kudos Mish for nailing a grand slam again!!! Curious to know what Mish's favorite (or most reliable) indicator to use for stock or ETF momentum analysis. Thanks for another great Live talk!

Hey Fred-too bad on DDD-but let dust settle cause could go way higher. Our own proprietary indicator is my favorite-called Real Motion. Best!

Mish, what is the indicator you are using on the lower study (momentum) and is it proprietary? I use the ThinkorSwim platform, is it available there or elsewhere? It is hard to see on the screen but looks like MidGuage Real Motion. Looks like it has 50 and 200SMA component, some sort of Bollinger product and a momentum plot. I like it, and would like to use it or something similar. Great presentation and information as usual! Thank you!

Mish and Max are fab as always! @Mish - Just wondering isn't momentum indicator on your charts a derivative of price? If yes, how is it that for DXY or $STNG momentum seems to be turning up but price isn't?

HI Amit-yes it is a derivative of price but often as you can see today (1-07-21) a lead indicator.

.....Interested in the premise of selling your house and thinking of it as a trade. Any chance of clarification/elaboration on this? Thanks in advance. Great interview BTW

Thanks Kelly. We are having a real estate boom in Santa Fe. With the low rates and parabolic rise in price, we put our house on well above where we bought it and well above what we imagined we could sell at just a year ago. We sold it-and now, plan is to wait (rent maybe) until more inventory comes on the market and the supply demand shift more to supply or buyers market. Hopefully the plan works out!
