Supply Disruption and the Upside for Agricultural Commodities in 2021 – Live with Shawn Hackett

Live ·
Featuring Shawn Hackett and Max Wiethe

Published on: January 12th, 2021 • Duration: 70 minutes

Shawn Hackett, president of Hackett Financial Advisors, joins Real Vision editor Max Wiethe to discuss his 2021 forecast for Ag markets and the circumstances that are laying the groundwork for the upside potential he is anticipating. Providing a run-down of the rare weather cycle that is coming for 2021 through 2022, he explains how this extreme weather volatility will affect different Ag commodities and how this accentuates the forthcoming shifts in their supply and demand dynamics after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. He emphasizes how these conditions, not monetary inflation, will be the driving forces behind the price movement in Ag commodities, and he shares his investment strategies to take advantage of this market set-up.

Great interview. Excellent data with very long term context. I’m a little confused by the repeated description of backwardation in the corn futures as contango. I had to back it up to make sure I heard that right, but Shawn didn’t even catch it. Just a heads up to whoever edited the interview. Thanks for the great work, Max, nevertheless.

Great show Max & Shaun. Ag commodities can be a great be a good tool for our macro toolbox. Since we have production cycles in 2 hemispheres it would be good to see Shaun present 2 seasonal reports and 1 annual report. Great work RV

My favorite part is when the tree huggers come out and get salty from Shawn showing them the science. It's quite entertaining to see them triggered by non-propaganda. Keep up the good work, Shawn. The climate always changes, so does life, that's the point!

I really, really enjoy these Shawn Hackett interviews. So much knowledge in the Ag space, and I think one can make a lot of money in the Ag space in the coming year. Thank you Shawn for taking the time to do these interviews and thank you RV for having him on. Please see in you can fit him in for a regular quarterly update (if not every 3 months then at least every 6 months). Looking forward to the next time he is on.

Thanks for coming on Shawn! I love hearing you on RV or the Moving Iron Podcast. Can you or anyone else recommend any good sources of information for better following the Ag market? Like a newletter or podcast? I'm a retail investor and get the impression your Hackett financial's service is more for farmers. The white paper download seemed too deep in the weeds for me.

The last time he pitched GRU ETN, is he still bullish this vehicle? is the low trading volume a risk concern?

Gru has done well lately and given the inverted structure of the grain markets we discussed this remains a viable vehicle. The liquidity may be a factor on a short term basis but over time liquidity will improve as markets garner greater capital flows.
