Perpetual Success in Credit Markets – Joshua S Friedman

Master Class ·
Featuring Joshua S. Friedman

Published on: June 16th, 2017 • Duration: 76 minutes

Real Vision was honored to secure a rare interview with the legendary Joshua S Friedman earlier this year and in this Master Class presentation, we revisit the storied career of the co-founder of the $20 billion plus Canyon Capital hedge fund. In this interview, conducted by David Salem of Windhorse Capital Management, Josh offers deep insight into the practice of building and running an enduringly successful money management firm, from his perspective as a pioneer of credit and distressed debt markets. Filmed on April 12, 2017, in New York.

This guy disgust me -- a complete psychopath. Michael Milken was a lying criminal and Drexel didn't just "vanish" - his boss was put in jail for fraud. His sanitized words to describe what he actually does is appalling .

I was wondering about that - did he know about the fake liquidity Drexel was creating to rip people off?? Seems kind of important. And yeah you'd think that on an occasion like this there would be some need to denounce it or claim one didn't know? I also thought that was kinda weird.

I just find it amazing to be able to sit in and listen to a conversation between people of this calibre. It feels like there is so much more than what is said going on. There is no other media where you can get this. Truly brilliant. Thank you, Real Vision.

Great interview. Fantastic insight as to what it takes to play in the distressed market and come out on top. Equally great insight as to what it takes to be the best in your field. Thanks RV

seems a replay is sent to the top every now and then, would be cool if the videos were marked as such and perhaps a reason given for the choice!

Well that was ok if you knew nothing about distressed investing and were never going to commit money to what is probably the most complex micro-investing space there is. How about having one of Josh's partners on to discuss specific case studies and/or the management of risk in the ever-deteriorating US HY bond/loan investor protection regime?

Very insightful discussion on the credit markets from 2 "old" pro's! I like the interview atmosphere with the interviewer and interviewee - like they are 2 old friends that came up thru the business around the same time and they reminisce on how the industry grew up and unfolded. Very, very enlightening!

awesome interview. this is someone that needs to be brought back. I do think the interviewer sometimes jump around with no smooth transition. For example the question on rating agency was out of nowhere.

This is an all time interview for me. I love hearing about Drexel. Restructuring opportunities in capital markets, specifically credit analysis is immensely challenging, but something of an obsession of mine. Thanks for bringing Mr. Friedman to RealVision!

Excellent interview and a wealth of knowledge. All investments are bets on an unknown future. It is no wonder that Mr. Friedman is successful, as he looks at each investment and manager from many points of view. He is prepared to look at the new, but the new is discounted by his knowledge of the past. Well done. DLS

Wow - legends! So much to take in here but this is some of the best stuff yet. To get the inside story about the birth of High Yield and fall of Drexel is really top notch. One of the best ones yet.
