Very interesting interview in hindsight. And from where I sit, it's pretty clear that Trump has proven himself to be strategically incapable across most dimensions, specifically, patience, foreign policy, domestic policy, economics, science, etc. I'd love to see RP back for a follow up now. I'd be very curious about his scorecard evaluation of Trump's presidency + an analysis of the election results.

The 'two cities trap' is an allusion to the Thucydides trap. There's a Steve Bannon/Kyle Bass interview on RV that addresses the question in depth. 30:30 "The United States obviously sells less to China than we buy from them. But it's not dramatically different in scale - the imbalance." Aren't the US buying good and services whereas the US is selling treasuries? The trade imbalance is smaller since the end of Chimerica but still a proper imbalance, hence the persistent, large, famous trade deficit.
