Crypto Is Like a Growth Stock Dream

The Interview - Crypto ·
Featuring Jim Roppel and Mark Ritchie II

Published on: February 17th, 2021 • Duration: 56 minutes

Jim Roppel, founder at Roppel Capital Management, joins Mark Ritchie II, CIO and managing partner at RTM Capital Advisors, to discuss Roppel’s experience in investing, his bullishness on crypto, and comparisons of crypto to growth stocks. Roppel walks through his career as an investor and trader in traditional markets, touching on some of his early experiences selling penny stocks and integrating a more rigorous selection criteria to his investment technique. He believes that the Fed’s monetary easing due to the pandemic is one of the primary reasons people should be bullish on assets like crypto. Roppel says that crypto will revolutionize the way we live, having as great or even greater impact than the internet, but that it is still young and premature as most people don’t yet understand it. He explains that the primary group investing in the space are the mavericks, who are the hands-on developers of the technology, and that the big money has only started to pay attention to the crypto markets. Filmed on February 9, 2021.

Key Learnings: Crypto markets are similar to that of growth stocks—with higher risks but potentially higher reward. The primary investors in the space seem to be those that are extremely tech-savvy with robust understanding of the technology that supports cryptocurrencies and the sector as a whole. Large institutions such as pension funds are much more risk averse and have only started to pay attention to crypto markets recently. This implies that there is much more room to grow as they begin to invest seriously into crypto assets.

The flippening. Yeah, absolutely no chance in hell. He'll still get rich though. ETH can only ride on coattails for so long however. Eventually it has to do some stuff.

I thought this interview was very choppy. The interviewer seemed unprepared with a script of questions and the interviewee unfortunately didn't finish thoughts before jumping to the next. The cliff notes: Wall of money coming into the space. Early inning still. You should trend follow with BTC and ETH. Interviewee also likes DOT and UNI

As an addendum - why Bitcoiners don't trust altcoins: Verge hit with a deep re-org attack, 200 days of transactions erased -- https://cointelegraph.com/news/verge-of-disaster-200-days-transactions-wiped-from-blockchain But don't worry, the devs suggest a Vitalik Buterin solution, rolling back the blockchain. Hope none of your transactions were later than the blockheight they're going to use, lol This is why Bitcoiners don't trust DeFi: Cream Finance and Alpha protocols were utilized to drain (steal) $37,500,000 USD from accounts. They've "patched" the explicit 'loophole' that allowed it, so its all good, right? What a goddamn nightmare, and this isn't the first problem DeFi has had, Yearn Finance had a real big one not long ago. The whole space is bleeding money on a constant basis with these 'smart' contract problems.

This was great. Mark is great! (met him once at a Minervini event but had no idea who he was) I guess something to clarify is how is Jim thinking of selling crypto the next 12-24 months? Sounded like he'll peel off 25% for profit and let the rest ride over past the crash?

The idea that it's inevitable that ETH will flip BTC is ignorant. You can't throw that assertion out there and not back it up, lol.

This guy is a too obvious a product of a very long bull market. He is terribly self-confident and derides pessimists and Jim Chanos. "If I am wrong I will have my stop at the moving averages". I almost feel in my gut he is going to blow out a fourth time!!!

Mr Ropple obviously gets crypto. I disagree about his assessment of ETH, as there are risks he didn't touch upon - but to give him credit he weighs his exposure accordingly. This was a refreshing interview, as Jim totally understands the difference in altcoins versus primary assets. It tells me he's obviously traded them, he knows how they act and how the flows of interest wax and wane during the year. I'm sure Jim will do fine, but I'd scale down that ETH exposure, personally. Taproot is incoming right now for BTC, which will obviate a lot of other alts. I'm sure Mr Ropple has a grip on this. As for the rest of RV crypto -- I have my doubts.
