Yoni Assia, founder and CEO of eToro, joins Ash Bennington, Real Vision senior editor, to discuss eToro, the rise of retail investors, and the value of tokenization. Assia explains that eToro started as an attempt to improve the user experience for retail investors getting started with investing when he quickly realized that the social features of the platform were the most used. eToro’s social features include copy trading, which allows users to copy the trades of others on the platform, creating a type of hands-on learning experience for new traders. Assia describes the rise of retail investors as a result of current circumstances such as low interest rates and lockdowns due to the pandemic, resulting in a generational buying movement. He touches on the importance of the tokenization of assets, stating that he believes that, in the future, all assets will be able to be traded 24/7 and that digital assets are making this possible. Key Learnings: The global investor pool seems to be growing, and eToro is looking to support those new to investing by providing social tools, such as “copy trade.” Tokenization will enable 24/7 markets in stark contrast to limited trading hours and days markets are bound by today.
