Real Vision senior editor Ash Bennington welcomes Georgia Quinn, General Counsel of Anchorage Digital, to discuss the regulatory environment of the cryptocurrency space, smart storage, and Anchorage Digital's unique role in crypto security. The pair goes into Anchorage Digital's role as a custodian of digital assets. Quinn argues that smart storage strikes the ideal balance between security and accessibility of digital assets. Quinn also walks through the core principles of a crypto agency including governance, staking, settlement, brokerage, and lending. Furthermore, she explains the regulatory nuances between traditional financial services and crypto custodial services. She believes that the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) plays an essential role in supporting the legitimacy of the crypto industry. Filmed on June 10, 2021.
Unlike cold storage and hot storage, Quinn states that smart storage is effective because it uses hardware security modules to store cryptographic assets without human input. This functionality allows Anchorage Digital to keep the assets air-gapped from the Internet but accessible to the clients. Institutional clients are able to provide instructions that use the blockchain's qualities to make secure and instantaneous transactions.
