Inside Gemini: The Nuts & Bolts of Operation

The Interview - Crypto ·
Featuring Noah Perlman

Published on: December 16th, 2020 • Duration: 41 minutes

Noah Perlman, COO of Gemini, joins Real Vision senior editor Ash Bennington to discuss the Gemini crypto currency exchange, regulations and the importance of exchange security. Perlman comes from a unique background with extensive experience in both law and law enforcement, and leverages this experience to make Gemini a compliance and security first exchange. He explains that there are still common misconceptions held by the public and regulators about the crypto space, and that their team is working to educate and clear these misconceptions. Perlman touches on the entry of institutions into the crypto space and how Gemini has supported this adoption. Filmed on December 8, 2020. Key Learnings: The growing crypto ecosystem is in need of highly regulatory compliant platforms in order to gain mass adoption. Gemini has put this at the forefront of their business. There is tremendous value from having an ethos of "ask for permission, not forgiveness" for an exchange hoping to onboard the next wave of crypto adoption

I'm not sure what Gemini's future looks like - for a small investor it is very hard to deal with. Paypal is way easier to use. If I want to buy some Bitcoin in Paypal I just do it and the money gets pulled from my Bank account with Gemini you have to transfer dollars via Wire or pay to use a debit card. I checked and my Bank charges $20 to wire anything, not a very efficient way to buy a couple of hundred dollars in Bitcoin.

You cannot withdraw your bitcoin from PayPal. With Gemini you can and then move it to a private wallet.

Please invite Mr. Perlman back to discuss regulation. While this interview gave me confidence in using Gemini, I believe there is huge value in understanding the regulatory environment. And people like him who have close contacts with law enforcement, as well as traditional finance compliance, can be a huge asset. I believe the biggest risk of investing in crypto is unsettled law and regulations.

Yes agree. That's why the Caitlin Long talks are so valuable. She knows it well. RV should get more people who have expertise in this area and less cheerleaders for their own companies and projects. There's gonna be good regulation and bad regulation. We need to know.
