Mona El Isa: Empowering the Next Generation of Fund Managers

The Interview - Crypto ·
Featuring Mona El Isa

Published on: December 3rd, 2020 • Duration: 37 minutes

Avantgarde Finance CEO Mona El Isa joins senior editor Ash Bennington to discuss the Melon protocol, Avantgarde Finance, and how crypto can empower fund managers. She describes the hurdles that traditional fund managers encounter when setting up new funds, where Avantgarde Finance steps in to help fund managers overcome these obstacles, and how their services dramatically lower the barriers to entry. She also explains how smart contracts enable this process to be both significantly cheaper and less burdensome. Filmed on November 19, 2020. Key Learnings: Smart contract protocols such as Melon can make traditional fund management a more efficient process -- from launch to close. Understanding the inefficiencies of the traditional finance world allows innovators in the crypto space to target those points of friction and smooth them out.

Great interview - thanks. This is a part of the crypto space that is genuinely solving real-world problems that NEED to be solved. The current patchwork of systems for traditional asset management / trading is a mess. The moment a legal entity can own stocks, listed options on public companies / indices, bonds via a trustless ledger..... it's game on. Absolutely transparency, near-instant settlement. It will cut out so many middlemen. When can I buy AAPL shares on the Ethereum blockchain? Imagine permissioning investors to different levels of access to your fund. Automated reporting. Transparent margining. Real-time risk calculations. So much goodness here. I've no idea if the Melon Protocol is the answer--this seems to be more about investing in tokens--but best of luck with the efforts.

Great interview and good real-world business problem to tackle. Perhaps I missed it in the video but where would I buy some of the token? I don't see it on any of the exchanges.

Fund management 2.0 Having set up a number of funds, the brain damage and cost of setting them up and ongoing administration no longer makes sense unless you are a large fund. This makes a ton of sense. Where are funds domiciled? In the cloud?

Great interview on a really interesting project. One of the few blockchain projects I've heard about that solves a business problem with blockchain.
