Litigation Funding Enters the Mainstream

The Interview ·
Featuring Neil Purslow

Published on: November 17th, 2016 • Duration: 34 minutes

Litigation funder Neil Purslow of Therium Capital, outlines the rewards and risks for investors in this relatively new counter cyclical asset class, from the first legal arguments in the UK to the funding of large scale commercial litigation and international arbitration. With private equity style, double digit annualized returns, the attractions are clear, but in a highly specialized market, beware taking on the cases that the professionals have all passed on.

The issue that was not addressed is collecting any potential arbitration award. This is especially true when it involves a government. It is one thing to win it is another thing to collect.

I would like to respectfully disagree with Hassan below. The interviewer did a perfectly respectable job. It's not easy to be an interviewer, this was the first appearance, I welcome new interviewers to gain perspective that Raoul or Grant may not have, and I look forward to more. A fine opening performance!

Burford Capital Limited stock has increased almost 3x in the past year. Worth investigating further. Thanks RV. Never knew this existed.

Thanks to the interviewer for drawing out the key investment points, risks and rewards so cogently. I'm sure we're going to be hearing a lot more about this space in the future. Good to see a new face too. Well done!

The interviewer did a horrible job. I felt that the interviewee was trying to steer him towards a more meaningful discussion unfortunately without much luck. I definitely did not get an edge like I normally do by watching RVTV interviews.

RV delivers another Innovative way of seeking Alpha - I am sure in a few years from now there will be a huge database to reference litigation probability across sectors/regions etc.
