The Case for China: Why Investors Need More Exposure–Not Less

The Interview ·
Featuring Jason Hsu and Maggie Lake

Published on: December 22nd, 2021 • Duration: 53 minutes

To the outside spectator, China has seemingly abandoned their economic objectives of “growth at all costs,” a narrative that is building steadily as their crackdown on tech companies, ban of cryptocurrencies, and Evergrande’s collapse have captured headlines this year. Jason Hsu, founder and CEO of Rayliant Global Advisors, presents a different lens through which to view these decisions made by Chinese regulators. Shedding light on the cultural, political, and social dynamics that shape Chinese policy, Hsu reveals enlightening—and at times surprising—insights on why Chinese corporations may be more transparent than we expect; why China has a strong desire for foreign capital; and why Chinese markets are so heavily regulated. He argues that the best exposure to Chinese growth is through investing in a diversified basket of onshore Chinese equities. Interviewed by Maggie Lake on December 17, 2021.
