Trades for a Sideways Market

Technical Trader ·
Featuring Dave Floyd

Published on: June 20th, 2019 • Duration: 14 minutes

Dave Floyd of Aspen Trading Group sees steepening yield curves as an indicator that more sideways price action is ahead for the S&P 500. This has him examining a multitude of asset classes to find a variety of trades. Floyd drills down on the technical setup for equities, bonds, currencies, and one particular stock where the technicals and fundamentals seem to be right in line. Filmed on June 19, 2019 in Bend, Oregon.

Upside targets in 10 year yields would be nice. Does he expect yields to push above resistance at 2.35% /change in trend in rates? Commentary on this trade limited and not very helpful.

what is the mechanism by which the junk-treasury spread would inversely cause the S/P 500 to go higher. aren't they just markers of risk appetite, correlated but not necessarily causally linked? Also, as I am short CVNA on a fundamental basis, I welcomed your technical reinforcement.

Hey Dave, What do you think of ORLY? Long term holder buying protection out two months.

Always enjoy the videos from Dave. One of the best on the technical side. Second technician I have heard who is going short on bonds, which is interesting.

Short 10-years and eurodollars, small, not working obviously....but expect it to in the days/weeks ahead.

would be interested to hear at what point on a longer term basis bonds would again be a buy as on a macro basis I believe Raoul Pal is long eurodollars.

Thanks for the kind words George B. As of this AM, those forecasts are largely playing out rather well. We are long AUD/USD & CAD/JPY...pretty happy about that. CVNA has rallied, but that is a volatile one, so to be expected.
