What The Millennium's First Major Coffee Frost Means for Ag Commodities

A major coffee frost has struck Brazil for the first time in 26 years and threatens to take up to 20 million bags of coffee off the market. Shawn Hackett, president of Hackett Financial Advisors, explores whether this event offers explosive upside potential for not just coffee, but other commodities such as orange juice. Hackett looks at the futures curve of coffee with particular calendar spreads for coffee trading out of line. Hackett also looks at how commodities will be impacted by weather patterns for the rest of 2021 such as cold phase synchronicity between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, a potential La Nina Modoki phase, and growing dryness in East Africa.
