What is your take Ash/Raoul on the Australian dollar? With Australia having a low death rate ratio and plenty of natural resources will it stay strong? I have been buying USD with AUD but am a little unsure if that is a good move ATM. I would appreciate your feedback. PS: I live in Australia - you guys are doing us all a great favour. Thank you.

I'm also very curious about this. Converted from AUD to USD a while ago but Aus is looking like we're getting ahead of the curve (early days still) and I'm not sure about the impacts this could have on the exchange.

It would seem to me that this will depend on China. If they are able to recover from the economic consequences of their quarantine, and if they are able to resume manufacturing for the world, then they will resume buying huge quantities of materials from Australia and the AUD should strengthen. But those "ifs" look pretty iffy to me.

US desires to strangle China economy - drive up import costs, drive down export revenues. Aus is going to get caught in the middle of this. COVID is just the first shot.

question: if the treasury is issuing so much more debt, that debt issuance does have to compete with other markets; China is no longer buying treasuries, so the money in the money markets couldn't go to treasuries instead of returning to stocks? if the government has to compete for financing, the government usually wins

@16:50 mark regarding the New Yorker Cartoon's "lesson to be learned". Some were embracing the remote life 5, 10, 15, ... years ago. I suggest that this book, surprisingly written quite a while back, is relevant to us all in such times: https://basecamp.com/books/remote. An example "lesson to be learned": a task's necessity is directly proportional to the barrier of access to you.

Darcy, Interesting! Thank you. I’ll check it out. I actually read a terrific book from the folks at Basecamp called “Getting Real” (it was published way back in the olden days, when they were still known as 37signals.) It’s actually available free to download. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! —Ash https://basecamp.com/books/getting-real

I cut my own hair too Ash!! Back in 2006 I wanted a haircut for grad school commencement and the line was out the door. Went to Kmart instead, watched the dvd in the package, and never looked back! Pisses my wife off to this day though!

Another excellent one guys and glad to see Roger touch on the US $ (prompted by Ash 👆) as this seems to be the lynchpin for what’s happening next. I would urge anyone who hasn’t seen the Brent/Luke US $ RV video to make sure they view it as, for me, it was this video that explained both sides of the argument in such a way that I was finally able to get an understanding of the debate and how important it is. Raoul and others have been saying for 2 years that “it’s all about the US $” and all you have to do is get that bit correct to come out on the right side of all this. FWIW, I thought I saw a possibility of a bit of a quasi “Plaza Accord” type of action in the dollar last week—nah, it was probably nothing and just my spidey sense as Raoul likes to call it. Oh...and great job with the shears Ash, you renaissance man you!
