Daily Briefing – November 12, 2020

Daily Briefing ·
Featuring Peter Cooper, Jack Farley, and Ed Harrison

Published on: November 12th, 2020 • Duration: 33 minutes

Real Vision managing editor, Ed Harrison, is joined by editor, Jack Farley, to break down a day of heavy selling across sectors as COVID-19 cases surge to unseen levels. Ed interprets what the Citigroup Economic Surprise Index means and shares his views on how, shutdown or not, the rise of coronavirus will likely depress economic activity. Ed and Jack discuss the flattening of the U.S. Treasury yield and the heavy selling of value equities, with Jack asking Ed whether the rotation into value will resurge or is in fact over. After quickly reviewing price action in volatility markets, Ed and Jack give a sneak peek of the “Paradigm Shift: Investment Ideas for a World in Flux” featuring Jim Chanos, Mike Green, Chamath Palihapitiya, Hugh Hendry, Kyle Bass, Jeremy Grantham, Jim Grant, William White, and many other legends of the investment world. In the intro, Peter Cooper explores the current state of the coronavirus epidemic in the States and reviews the jobless claims report that came out today. The view that Covid will end in six month or a year is erroneous. "Dr. Fauci says ‘help is on the way’ with vaccines, but doubts Covid can ever be eradicated". Like common cold it's gonna be around but, will be deadlier. Nature knows how to decrease world population.

excess mortality is not there this is a fraud like the corpse you voted for; I do agree that one way or another the increasing pop has to diminish ... times got too easy. The real issue is that people aren't adult enough to talk about risk analysis and the damage done by non scientific things like lockdowns and masks. Joe Schmoe already knows these don't work. Why? We tried them and all of a sudden now we supposedly have "wave 2" lol what a joke.

Yes, good on ya Jack. What DO We have? Virus from Hell (these RNA types never go away, BTW), election from Hell, Elites from Hell (looking to front run the Reset and gain Total Control), leadership from Hell (all of Them). I learned in the army that the leadership determines the critical troop (mainstream) moral and therefore the outcome. So we can be assured of a looong Fourth Turning! WINTER is coming, in all senses of what that means. Get prepared. Batten down the hatches, take in the sails and throw out the sea anchor. All this HOPE for mooore free helicopter drug money, miracle vaccines, economic recovery, social peace, smooth election outcome, and everything getting back to what passes for 'normal' is vain and no way to run a ship. Forget trying to make sense of Manic mkts running on hyped up Millenial option day trader gamblers. Want to be able to sleep soundly with a guaranteed fabulous future on the 'other side' of this madness? Buy and Hold physical Gold and relax and watch the show. It's gonna be a doozie. I feel blessed to be alive for it. Alice, we ain't in Kansas no mo!

You might want to add some Canadian Energy companies based on Hackett's recent RV interview suggesting a sharp drop in temperatures next year. Gold is good, but it can't keep you warm.

Hi Juan, that is a question the editorial team is actively exploring, as part of the goal of the daily briefing is to bring new folks into Real Vision. I don't know what the answer is. I might add that in this case, I have no regrets about promoting the next two weeks of interviews. I have no doubt it's going to be an absolute bombshell and if you tune in, I think you will agree!!

great piece today guys. What do you guys think about the Pfizer CEO selling 60% of his stock after releasing vaccine news and before a peer reviewed paper is published? I think this says more about vaccines than anything else. Second wave of every pandemic in human history has been much worse than the first.

does fed money become incrementally less effective though now? Rates are already at 0 and they are already purchasing trillions per year in QE, would have to go up even more to have any effect.

Commentaries have recently grown more and more wishy-washy and not helpful for positioning. I'd like to hear more "insider" fundie moves of the day and why, rather than a commentary of what anybody can see by looking at the daily charts. I subscribe to real vision to get the early scoops, not get similar commentary dished out on mainstream media.

the VIX Term Structure is flat from a backwardated state of the last two months. This indicates that VIX ETNs and ETFs will start to trade similarly to spot VIX in the early part of the VIX expiration cycle. This implies that there's no conviction either way in SPX movement. If SPX plans to have a sustain rally VIX futures needs to contango steeply from its flat state to complete the cycle of fear to greed per se. Basically VIX TS was backwardated to flat to backwardated back to flat (maybe slightly contango'd) tells me things are not well, so being heavily long SPX may not be prudent here.
