The 2020 Multi-Asset Momentum Market Wrap-Up — Live with Michael Oliver

Live ·
Featuring Michael Oliver

Published on: December 7th, 2020 • Duration: 66 minutes

Momentum Structural Analysis CEO Michael Oliver returns to join Real Vision’s Max Wiethe and share his observations from the NDX to commodities to Bitcoin. With the end of 2020 rapidly approaching, Oliver indicates where he sees market weaknesses and strengths — whether the NDX is a bull trap, if gold and silver are poised for another rally, and whether Bitcoin still has major upside potential. Oliver also updates his outlook on the energy sector, explains his thoughts on uranium, platinum, and copper, and walks through how evaluates these markets from a technical analyst's perspective. Plus and Pro members can also find Michael Oliver's report here: https://www.realvision.com/issues/momentum-analysis-breaking-out-or-breaking-down. Key Learnings: Technical analysis offers another layer of depth when searching for market signals, and Oliver discusses how the technicals are causing him to reconsider or reaffirm his positions across various asset classes. Seasonal market volatility can be present in the last few weeks of the year and toward the beginning of the next, and technical tools create the type of clarity investors need in such an environment. Surprised this video has only just over 200 views. I am a subscriber to MSA and love the style and the recommendations.

I have been a satisfied subscriber of MSA for 2-3 years. However, I do not invest (or trade) week to week based on their momentum factors, except around the margins (non-core positions). Where this service has been particularly valuable for me has been in core positioning that I want to hold for at least a quarter or longer (longer is generally better in terms of their accuracy). They freely say that there are a lot of ups/downs (some pretty violent) even when they are right on the money within the general trend. Gold for example has been down $100 or more a number of times during the general uptrend since 2016. But MSA's methodology helps with the confidence needed to stay with core positions inside the larger trend, when shorter term pricing seems to be against the trend. So, imo it works best if used that way.

Bold calls for AU and AG over next 12-24 months. If prices materialize then the period just ahead of us will be the best since the '70s for the miners.

Dan Oliver is my favorite technical analyst. For someone like me who has no knowledge of technical analysis, the way he brings together short term technical analysis with long term technical analysis to identify secular trends, inflections points, and counter trends is so intuitive and so easy to understand. It always a pleasure watching his interviews.
