The New Rulebook for Global Conflict

Marko Papic, partner and chief strategist at Clocktower Group, tells Mike Green that China could pose a real threat to the U.S. global hegemony. Papic argues that China's leadership recognizes modern warfare is about technological superiority, rather than sheer manpower, and that this could seriously level the playing field in the event of a global conflict. This clip is excerpted from a video published on Real Vision on September 4, 2019 entitled "The Escalating Battle Between the U.S. and China."

This is all very well and good from a theoretical point of view, but I worry also about missteps and mis-calculations in day-to-day interactions. If a US or Chinese naval vessel were to be sunk in the South China Sea, even ostensibly by accident, would either Xi or Trump be able to make the necessary concessions to avoid an all-out war? And multiply this by dozens or hundreds of other potential points of conflict. Hong Kong, Taiwan, even Chinese construction crews in Iran, or whatever. And if it starts, where does it end? I see more potential for nuclear war than I have seen since the collapse of the USSR.
